Chalk drawings made today by Gloria Poole,RN, artist of/in Missouri

This is chalk drawing I made of swans. I am experimenting this week with three different mediums which have been used by artists for thousands of years: chalk, Chinese ink sticks, and encaustic [melted wax mixed with pigment]. I am doing that just for fun and variety mostly while I am thinking in my mind how to go about the oil painting I began weeks ago, and got to point where I thought it was all wrong, so decided to let it rest for a while and re-group mentally. Sketching and drawing are stress relieving measures for me and always have been. This drawing of swans is 8 x11 on inkjet paper. I got the idea of using chalk from studying the "old Masters" artist for ideas on how to arrange the oil painting I am painting on. The "old Masters" [world reknown artists at masters level of skill] used red and white chalk to do their studies and it occurred to me that those drawings are still in existence in museums so that must be a durable form of making sketches. I bought an assortment of chalks to experiment with and these sketches are some of those. This sketch is not "fixed" to the paper [yet]. As usual I signed these sketches, photographed them, uploaded them and posted them to this blog of mine. I signed this particular sketch with a marker to see if marker would write over chalk and it did.

This sketch is also chalk but I signed it in ink. It is 8 x 11 on inkjet paper. I bought a new sketchbook a few days ago and I began by putting sketches in it that were chalk pigment mixed with wax which took much longer to dry, so while it was drying, I made sketches on inkjet paper. This is probably sketch #12 I have made of a peacock over time.

This is the sketch I made of chalk mixed with encaustic wax. It is not made with the process some folks use to create encaustic however. I mixed it with some soft wax from a candle that is in a container which is obviously mixed with some type of oil to soften it. So it is very similar in drying time to painting with oils. The part of this sketch that is encaustic is the darker blue background and I "painted" it with a palette knife. The "flowers" are inktense with a wash of water over them. Inktense is a wonderful medium because it becomes permanent when washed over with water and because I can draw with it when I am laying down. I have much "down time" still from trauma and injuries that are permanent that were caused to me by others.

This is one of my personal logos that I made on the computer with a mouse not a paint brush or ink pen to define who I am.

This is my selfie of me in year 2014 but I look the same. I have not cut my hair yet and still wear it in a pony-tail sort of lop-sided and my hair is still brown.

The seal of my alma mater of Georgia Baptist College of Nursing where I graduated years ago, and took state licensing boards in the state of Georgia, also years ago, and have a Registered Professional Nurse license in Missouri but first had a license in Georgia for many years.

This is a display I made to show the world that I am also a graduate of the University of Georgia Terry College of Business and the symbols on this display I made are symbols known to represent the University of Georgia in Athens Georgia.

This is one of my photos of the U S flag that I photographed on walkabout to remind all that I am a US citizen born in the state of Georgia and therefore I have all protections of the U S Constitution INCLUDING the first amendment. Of course, you can see more of the art I made on these blogs of mine and remember each is different created one by one at different times and with different content by me.:
