This is my version of the kingfisher bird. I cannot say it is exactly as a real kingfisher, but similar. I saw these birds on TV last evening in a documentary about river life/habitats. And I drew them in pencil one by one as they appeared for few seconds on TV. Then I waked up at 3:30am and couldn't sleep so got up and painted them. I signed them, photographed them & uploaded them. I have sketched birds many times before. You can see more of them on this blog in the archives and also on other blogs of mine, or by googling my name such as with quotations included : "Gloria Poole + bird sketches". You can also do that for windmill sketches, boats sketches, ethnic series; flower sketches, paintings, etc. I drew five sketches in pencil last evening but one of them I am posting to a different blog of mine more in keeping with the theme of it. Scroll to see the others. This is watercolor in my sketch book. As you know [probably] kingfisher birds dive into the river and catch fish, and they are gorgeous birds. I tried to create sketch of kingfisher watching the river for his lunch. Also, you might be able to follow [on twitter] these sketches of mine with hashtag #birdsketches or #sketches or #art.
This is my version of a swan taking off to fly. I watched that on TV in amazement since they appear to be taxiing down the runway! They sort of walk themselves into the air. It was incredible to watch. I have seen swans on real lakes but I have not seen swans flying or taking flight. So that was very interesting to me. This is tempra and acrylic on 8 x 11 paper in my sketch book. That is my hand holding the edge of the sketch book.
This is my sketch of a duck sitting on her nest to hatch her eggs. The documentary showed a duck similar to this sketch but more beautiful in the video in the edge of the river marsh sitting on her eggs. So, this is my quick rendition of it. I drew this with watercolor pencils in my sketch book.
This is my rendition of a beautiful white fluffy bird with long white wispy feathers and I totally missed the name of it on the documentary. I saw it as it was landing and tried to draw it very quickly. This is tempra and acrylic on paper in my sketch book.
